Guardians of the Tansa Valley was founded to make environmental preservation in and around Mumbai, Maharashtra more voluntary, accessible and sustainable. Conceived as a student-led initiative, it is rooted in the belief that protecting the valley cannot and should not just be the tasks of experts alone; for long-term results require communities and young people to act as well. By combining awareness campaigns with training modules and on-ground measures, it aims to transform Tansa into a protected landscape that deserves shared responsibility.
Early interventions include designing an original knowledge resource for environmental preservation pursuers, conducting interviews with experts and piloting efforts that bring students into the heart of the valley to witness its biodiversity and threats firsthand. We also aim to conduct community workshops focused on environmental education and raise funds that support organizations in need of support to expand their programs and legal petitions. Our objective being - to make strides in ensuring that the Tansa Valley, an often forgotten area, is protected in practice for generations to come.Â
